Beaucaire
We arrived in Beaucaire on Thursday, a small town near Arles on the Rhone. It is a fascinating little town with an older section that has very narrow streets passing between 3 to 5 story stone buildings that tower on either side. The fifteenth century "Chateau de Beaucaire" sits upon a rock overlooking the town and the Rhone river.Beaucraire was a distribution point for goods carried by larger ships from the Mediterranean Sea. The goods were off loaded here and put on smaller vessels for shipment up river.
Our little house that we have for two weeks. It looks out over a park and the Rhone river beyond.
The "Chateau de Beaucaire" on a rocky hill down the street from our apartment. It is a massive structure with an unusual triangular tower.
Inside the battlement on the Chateau grounds. Much of the structure is only the remaining footings from the original structure.
The town and the "Collegiale Notre-Dame des Pommiers" from inside the walls of the Chateau de Beaucaire.
A street entrance through the city wall.
The streets are just wide enough to allow a small car to pass through. Some of the houses are bridged over the streets.
Ah, the wine, the cheese, the bread, and the fresh market vegetables! We envy you the next two weeks. If you get a chance, try to get to Gordes--that is the area where we used to hang out. You'd love Roussillion. They use pigments from the local earth to color ceramics and paints. L'Isle-Sur-la-Sorgue has a wonderful outdoor market, on Sundays I think. We don't have much experience with that area west of the A7, so are excited to hear about your visit!

Roussillion is on our list for next week, and we have a list of outdoor market that we hope to get to.
